At the weekend, eye surgeon Pavel Stodůlka received Professor Emilio Campos' prize for innovation in ophthalmology. Matteo Piovella, the president of the Italian Ophthalmological Society, presented him with the award in Rome.

In his acceptance speech, the award-winning eye surgeon said: "The award has a special meaning for me and shows how life's events often occur in circles. I first became acquainted with ophthalmology during a month-long student internship in Bologna, Italy, at the eye clinic at the Santa Orsola Malpighi Hospital, which is part of the University of Bologna, the oldest university in the Western world. At that time, prof. Emilio Campos was the head of the eye clinic there. After 30 years, I have now received the prize for innovation in ophthalmology, which bears his name, and the circle is thus closing."

Dr. Stodůlka gave a lecture on the occasion of this award on the subject of capsulotomy and capsulorhexis centration according to the dark blue target created with trypan blue on the anterior lens case. "We discovered this target while working with the Capsulaser, which we helped to develop, and we also performed the first surgeries with its use. Today, the Capsulaser has a CE mark and is used from Europe to Australia. Capsulotomy centering according to this target is more accurate than the one according to the pupil," eye surgeon Stodůlka described.
